Logistics zones: towards a high-performance and competitive industrial environment

Agency (AMDL) has established itself as the careful architect of a determined national strategy, dedicated to profoundly transforming the Kingdom’s logistics landscape. logistics zones (70 zones in 18 cities covering 3,300 ha); emerging and efficient logistics players; optimizing supply chains to improve the overall performance of the sector and establishing an appropriate governance and regulatory framework.

The AMDL and the CGEM created the Moroccan Observatory of Logistics Competitiveness to monitor the sector’s performance , which provided statistical data to assess the progress of the national logistics competitiveness strategy. The indicators c level executive list demonstrated that some objectives had been achieved, particularly with regard to governance, standardization, training, digitalization and the creation of logistics zones. Unfortunately, others were not achieved due to budgetary constraints, difficulties in obtaining significant land and the existence of the informal economy in the land transport sector.

 

FNH: How do logistics zones concretely contribute to the economic competitiveness of Moroccan companies and to the reduction of logistics costs, which are often considered too high?

E. Ch: It is important to first understand what a logistics zone is in order to understand its contribution to the competitiveness of the Moroccan business economy. A logistics zone’s mission is to bring together logistics players, carriers, freight forwarders, logistics service providers, distributors, etc., in order to optimize the flow of goods, offer alice and mathematical logic shared infrastructure and services, attract investment, strengthen the competitiveness of companies, and improve the overall performance of supply chains. Logistics zones are linked to manufacturing companies to facilitate the transport of raw materials and finished products via transport and international trade infrastructure (ports, airports, industrial zones, free zones, etc.), and their storage in stores and warehouses.

Logistics zones are also directly linked to end consumers to meet new distribution and consumption patterns.

This is Uberization, characterized by a challenge to traditional economic models using digital platforms to connect producers, transporters, and consumers at very attractive price/quality ratios. Logistics zones contribute directly to the economic competitiveness of companies by reducing  delivery times, lowering costs, improving the quality of services, adapting to changing demand and market fluctuations, improving warehousing and handling efficiency, and modernizing infrastructure.
